The Philips Viva Air fryer is Best 1400 watt air fryer that offers alternate way of healthier deep fat frying. The appliance is designed to be surprisingly packed in on the worktop and is tall and thin in contrast of wide rotary health fryers. The top section consists of fan and heating element while the bottom section consists of a drawer which can be pulled out to access the cooking basket which results in no window to keep an eye on cooking progress. The bottom of the basket has a metal net so that air can pass straight through it and the bottom of the drawer is sculpted in such a way that (this air fryer) helps in circulating the air.
Design & Control
The controls are very simply put together in the form of a dial which allows you to set the temperature from 80 to 200 degrees of Celsius, while the timer knob located above the handle helps in controlling the cooking process. On the back there is a cold storage which is handy though it also sticks out annoyingly. It is capable of cooking up to 800 grams of chips along with a tablespoon of oil to make 3% fat chips and it also produces them faster than a rotary health fryer.
It is also equipped with a recipe to fry the larger wedges twice at 160 degree Celsius and then again at 180 degree Celsius. The recipe book that comes with it makes it apparent that the Viva Air fryer is a small fan oven which can bake potatoes, drumsticks and spring rolls; also you can make crumbles, cakes and quiches inside it.
Usage & Advantages
The Phillips’ design is pleasing- glossy and compact. The timer knob is also very cool in a retro way, it is an analogue timer but the air fryer does turn off when the time is over. To make chips, you must toss them first in a bowl in oil, then put them inside the pre heated appliance. The noise from the fan is audible but still not noisy enough to hinder a conversation. The chips produced are very impressive and ready in just 20 minutes and also much tastier than most of the air fryers available in the market. The chips will be slightly dry, fluffy enough in the middle and not quite soft but definitely tastier than chips made in an oven.
You can also cook prawn crackers in it, which could be a disastrous attempt in rotary fryers but this air fryer cooked them very easily and quickly at 200 degree Celsius. It won’t be fluffy and big as one would expect from a deep fat fryer but it won’t be as greasy either. The only thing that could be a problem is that there is no window to keep your eye on the progress, you could hear the sound of them getting blown around inside it but still won’t be able to tell if they are cooked or not. The cleaning process is also not as greasy as cleaning a deep fat fryer.
