Beef pho noodle soup
Pho (pronounced “fur”) is traditionally eaten daily and my memories transport me back to Ho Chi Minh City, where I would sit down and enjoy the rich and hearty smell of the broth before digging into a big bowl. This broth is simmered down with real beef bones with multiple layers of umami through star anise, Chinese cardamom, cinnamon, and much more.

There are many variations of laksa in Malaysia and the most common ones are asam laksa, which is a sour clear soup with mackerel, and coconut curry laksa, which I am going to share! You might be overwhelmed by the list of ingredients, but trust me this is worth it! Once you have made the paste, then the rest is easy!

Popcorn "karaage" chicken
Everybody loves deep-fried chicken – well, I do! Tender, juicy and delicious, karaage tastes great even when cold. You can take it on picnics or pop them in your lunch box. I often have these with a little lemon juice or dipped in Japanese mayonnaise.

If you come to Japan you can taste many varieties of Ramen - it’s almost our national dish. This is one of our traditional soy-based ramen broths made from a natural base of pork, chicken, seafood, kelp, and shiitake. Umami-packed, this will send warmth throughout your whole body when you take one sip.

Crunchy tofu with wasabi dressing
Looking for a way to spice up a salad (what a pun!)? Why don’t you try my wasabi salad dressing! It’s always hard to make salads taste great, and I tend to get sick of the same old dressing. This wasabi kick is a nice way to eat something different, and I like having it with tofu and/or avocado along with my favourite greens. Vegetarian and vegan-friendly! Enjoy!
